Many Happy Returns

- Written by Jim Ward, UK Director

Fifteen years is a long time in the technology business. Most startups these days struggle to reach their first year, let alone take the idea that inspired them to start in the first place and to turn those dreams into a successful enterprise.

Often, the ideas and inspiration to start a new venture are born out of difficult times, which is usually when the eureka moment hits hardest. The idea that a business should fulfill a real need in the marketplace is a key one that every potential entrepreneur should consider.

This was true for Fastroi. While we have been celebrating our 15th birthday this Autumn, our story goes back much further. Back in fact to the 80’s when Risto, our CEO, found himself caring for his mother. Back then the technology was not in place to realise his vision, but the journey started there with the simple thought – “There must be a more efficient way to care for our loved ones”. Back then, the systems were paper based and required significant back-room management to ensure that appointments were kept and care was properly given.

Humble Beginnings

Even in 2003 when he launched the company, the smartphone had yet to be developed and Nokia were still riding high in Finland. Things have indeed changed! For any technology company to be successful, it takes more than a good idea, luck and an awesome elevator pitch! Risto set about putting together a team that would have the skill and passion to realise his vision.

Lasting longer than a 3310

As we fast forward 15 years, Fastroi are now firmly established as the market leader in Finland for residential and domiciliary care management software. We have a large customer base and every day we process a vast number of appointments and data points with a high accuracy and reliability. But we can’t stand still. Over the last 12 months we have been focussing on our UK market entry. We have fully committed to this by opening a new office in Lancashire and will soon be recruiting additional employees to support the numerous tenders we are now actively bidding for and to seek out new opportunities across the country.

Looking to the future

Part of our ongoing strategy is to attend conferences and exhibitions in order to meet with potential customers and to introduce our Real-Time Care™ product. We will be attending the Care Show 2018 at the NEC in Birmingham on the 17th & 18th October. If you would like to come and meet us, we will be on stand K21. As with all good stories, the next page is yet to be written and we are delighted to be able to start the next chapter of the Fastroi story in the UK and we look forward to meeting new customers and characters that will help to grow the story for the next 15 years.
